One of the most unique museums in Montevideo is the Museo del Gaucho y del la Moneda, which translates to the Museum of the cowboy and the money. An interesting combination, this museum offers one collection which is that detailing the importance of the cowboy to the past of the area and a second collection which explores the history of Montevideo’s money system. These two parts of Montevideo’s past may not, at first glance, seem linked, but the influence of the conquistadores left a lasting impact on Montevideo’s economy, a fact reflected in the exhibits of the museum.
