Montevideo has a privileged harbor, one of the most important in the Americas. Also, it has beautiful beaches, like Pocitos, Buceo, Malvín, Playa de los Ingleses, Punta Gorda and Carrasco. Many monuments and museums cover the city, as well as historic buildings and squares.

Montevideo covers an area of 131.3 sq. miles (340 square Km) and is estimated to have a population of 1.5 million people being the largest city, capital and chief port of Uruguay. Montevideo is the primate city in Uruguay, the only city in the country with a population over 1,000,000.

Museums

m1.jpgAfter some years of rebuilding, Solis Theatre has opened its doors. It was founded in 1856, and since then it has been the main (and most beautiful) theatre of the city. Not only theatre, but opera, ballet and concerts can be enjoyed at this theatre. There are guided visits on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, at 10, 11 and 12 hours, in Spanish for free, in other language by 60 pesos (2 dollars) each person. Luego de varios años de reconstrucción, el Teatro Solís ha abierto sus puertas. Fue fundado en 1856, y desde entonces ha sido el principal (y más bello) teatro de la ciudad. No sólo espectáculos teatrales pueden ser disfrutados allí, sino también ópera, ballet y conciertos. Hay visitas guiadas los lunes, miércoles, jueves, sábados y domingos a las 10, 11 y 12 horas, en forma gratuita. Si se necesita guía en otro idioma, el costo es de 60 pesos (2 dólares) por persona.
